shapes 2025

The study of materiality and the trace of process that has fueled Chloé Desjardins’s practice for several years unfolds in the exhibition shapes [formes] through a diversion of the represented object, exploiting the shift from utilitarian to artistic.

When Chloé Desjardins reproduces packaging, tools, raw materials, furniture and architectural elements, it is her way of bringing back into visibility the production context and presentation structures of artworks, usually concealed or inaccessible. For the exhibition, she focused on elements whose function is to hold, retain or support.

Because they are made of porcelain, these works overturn our perception of materials. The object multiplies; it shifts into the plural, giving rise to a motif, a sequence, a landscape. Four sculptural landscapes thus activate the gallery walls in a rigorous arrangement.

The whole conveys an abstraction of both the form and identity of the objects, placing us in a zone of uncertainty that invites slowness. Chloé Desjardins offers a space to reflect on the personal and symbolic value of objects and their evocative potential within a narrative of contrasts.
